Currently Vice Chair of A Better Start Programme Management Group. The purpose is to provide senior executive direction for "A Better Start Southend" and authorise all major actions and decisions and ensure meaningful community engagement at all levels of governance.
'A Better Start is for Southend-on-Sea: A Better Place to Live and Work' to become a practical reality for all of our children and families, reducing inequalities and 'narrowing the gap' between children born and living in our targeted areas and those born and living in the rest of Southend.We seek to achieve the best for our children and families, in three key areas of development:
- Social and emotional development
- Communication and language development
- Diet and nutrition
Ran multiple Book themed events for children visiting local libraries aged 0-11 years.
Facilitated Training for Early Years professionals, students and volunteers on early years literacy.
Organised 6 successful Southend Children's Book Festivals for children aged 3-11 years.
Secured short breaks funding for families with children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and provided multi sensory storytelling sessions using Bag Books (Bag books are multi sensory books that present sensory experiences in a structured and simple format)
Supported excluded young people to continue education in a positive, safe environment at Southend Central Library.
Created a wide network and strong working relationships with professionals whoes objectives are to improve the lives of families living in Southend.
Ran multiple events for families in the community, at pre-schools, nurseries, community centres, children's centres, festivals,women's refuge, hostels, schools and special schools.
Successfully trained and managed Bookstart Storyrhyme volunteers, to deliver quality Story and Rhyme sessions in all Southend-on-Sea Borough Libraries.
