What is a Reading Champion?

A Reading Champion is someone who is passionate about reading and makes it her mission to get everyone she meets excited about reading.

Reading can be a challenge for some children, every child develops differently and at their own rate. I make it my mission as a Reading Champion to support parents, to teach their children how to make reading a habit for life.

It is all about FUN, it has to be FUN! choose books you enjoy to share with your baby, and these will become family favourites, Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell is my favourite and has been endorsed by Bookstart www.bookstart.co.uk and is gifted in Baby Bookstart bags.

Choose interactive books to share with your child, the more interactive the better, I love Off to the Park! illustrated by Stephen Cheetham. This book was developed in consultation with children, families and organisations working with blind and partially sighted children. This book has tactile pictures on each page to touch and explore, my favourite page is the scratch and sniff ice cream! www.childs-play.com/bookshop/9781846435027.html

Parents are their child's first and most enduring teacher, and I champion parents too. Show your baby how to share a book, by cuddling up on the sofa turning off all distractions and sharing a book together. In our busy world these few minutes every day, are key to teaching your baby how to be a life long book lover.

I take the time as Reading Champion to listen to parents and provide activities and events which champion reading and books. Park and Rhymes, Gruffalo Parties and Baby Sensory Storytelling, these sessions follow a child centred approach and inspire creativity. My aim is for parents and carers to take home ideas from the sessions, to enjoy as a family together. Play can be great for stress relief and when we allow ourselves to relax and have fun, happy memories are created.

Come and meet me at a local event and see my super powers in action.Events

Every child deserves a Reading Champion.
